Chapter Meetings

  • Meetings

Our fraternity meets every other week to touch-base with each other. Officers provide updates, we learn something from our educational time speaker, debate about medical ethics, and more. See below for more information!

  • Educational Time

For each chapter meeting, a member volunteers to present on a topic that he or she is passionate about. Regardless if the presentation is related to medicine or not, our members always come away from meeting learning something new.

  • MCAT Question

Our Academic Chair presents a MCAT question to the fraternity for them to consider. After discussion among members, the answer is revealed and an explanation is provided. One can never have too much practice!

  • Officer Updates

There are five executive officers: President, Vice-President of Programming, Vice-President of Finance, Vice-President of Recruitment, and Secretary and Risk Management Officer. At every meeting, the executive officers facilitate and provide updates on what is going on in the fraternity.

  • Committee Updates

There are six committees: Academic, Service, Social, Recruitment, Philanthropy, and Public Relations. Each committee is headed by a committee chair. Chairs give updates on what their committee is up to, including progress updates and upcoming events.

  • Members Only Discussion

Members split into small groups to discuss happenings in the fraternity. This allows for members to voice their opinions in a smaller group setting, including how the fraternity can be improved and other ideas, that can be brought to discussion among the entire fraternity at a later time.

  • Committee Time

Each member is part of one of the five committees. This meeting is led by the respective committee chairs to discuss a multitude of topics depending on what is going on within the fraternity at the time.

  • Ethics Question

At the conclusion of each meeting, the Academic Chair presents a medical ethics question to the fraternity to discuss and debate. Members volunteer to present their own views to the fraternity, and in doing so, broaden the perspectives of every member on these difficult topics.

Philanthropy

Phi Delta Epsilon believes in giving back to our global community. Our international philanthropic and service partner is Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. There are more than 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals worldwide. Each year these hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable. Collectively they impact the lives of more children than any other children’s organization in the world.

Children’s hospitals are special places, graced with experts trained in the care and handling of small, fragile, sick and injured children. It is critical that we, as a society, support these islands of care because any child can get sick or become seriously injured. When they do, it is critical that there be a children’s hospital nearby.

Each PhiDE chapter partners with a local CMN Hospital to volunteer and fundraise. As their current and future physicians, this organization is dear to our members. WA Alpha’s local partner hospital is Seattle Children’s Hospital.

WA Alpha's Signature Philanthropic Events

Stand for the Kids

Each year, in October, we host our international philanthropy day, Stand For The Kids, an event that PhiDE chapters do worldwide.

Stand For The Kids was created as a one-day event to unite the nation to stand in support of children’s health. Join WA Alpha and thousands of people from across the nation as we come together, raising funds and awareness for sick and injured children, and the amazing Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals that provide them with critical treatment and services. In standing for the kids, we take a step toward a vision of a world where no child, regardless of injury, illness, or ability to pay, is denied the care of a dedicated children’s hospital.

Anatomy Fashion Show

The Anatomy Fashion Show is a fun event put on by our fraternity that showcases the many different human body systems and its functions. This event usually takes place in mid-January. Models volunteer to be painted on by our volunteer artists for this special two-hour fundraiser. The event also has a silent auction and showcases talented campus groups for entertainment.

All money raised from the Anatomy Fashion Show goes directly to our local partner hospital, Seattle Children’s!
